Please makesure you read Part I and II in advance.
SIT
What you want: A dog that will sit on command under any situation and will stay there until you "release" the German Shepherd.
Method:
A) -keep the dog on your left site, the dog should be standing -the leash is on your right hand, you keep it short, but comfortable for the dog -make sure you have enough control over the dog
B) -Give the Command "Sit" -as fast as possible, tab the back of the dog with the left hand -you have to push the German Shepherd a little harder is he does not sit -control the position of the dog with the leash (guide him in the process of the dog sitting down, not after) -make sure the Shepherd sits straight -keep the leash over the dogs head
C) -during the dog is sitting praise him alot! -wait a little (increase the time the German Shepherd is sitting every time -Release the Shepherd by saying "OK" -give a treat - repeat, repeat, repeat :)
DOWN
What you want: You German Shepherd that will lay down on command under any situation and will stay there until you "release" the dog.
Method:
-Kneel down, the dog should be on your left, sitting -grasp around his shoulder with one hand and reach his paw -with your other, right hand, take his other paw -make him lay down by moving his legs with your hands and say at the same moment "down" -make sure your German Shepherd does not get up right away, by keeping him down for a bit with your hands and then, after a little while, start praising him -repeat and and increase the time he lays down with each time -don't forget to release him by saying "OK", so your dog knows that he a) can not get up until you say the word and b) knows when the command is over
STAND
-The easiest way to teach your German Shepherd to stand, is by simply stopping him during walking and to make sure your dog does not sit or lay down. -The "Stand" can be quite useful, for example grooming.
